COSATU condemns Pakistan school killings

17 December 2014

The Congress of South African Trade Unions angrily condemns the killing of 132 children and 9 teachers at a school in Peshawar, Pakistan, and the injuring of a further 122, in an attack for which responsibility has been claimed by the Pakistani Taliban.

There can be no possible political justification for such a merciless slaughter of children. It is tragic that such an atrocity was committed just days after the world mobilised to fight to end the abuse of women and children. This outrage is an extreme example of what remains a serious problem throughout the world.

COSATU sends its condolences to the families and friends of those killed and to the people of Pakistan and best wishes to those injured for a full recovery
