COSATU welcomes verdict on murder of Pinky Mosiane

28 November 2014

The Congress of South African Trade Unions and the National Union of Mineworkers are happy that the murderer who killed our sister Pinky Mosiane on 6th Feb 2012 during working hours at Anglo mine appeared in the high court of the NW on 27th November 2014.

Pinky Mosiane was raped and killed by a criminal who was employed by Anglo mine in Rustenburg. He has a bad criminal record of assaulting and stealing, including a conviction for raping a five-year-old baby for which he is currently serving a life sentence.

We happy that after three years the case is now being concluded. The man has been found guilty on all the charges of murder and rape and he will be getting his sentence today in the high court of NW in Mogwase.

We hope that judge will take into consideration the sixteen days of activism against the killing and raping of women and children, and that a clear message will go out. The man must rot in jail.

Poor Pinky Mosiane left children with her mother to go and work, not knowing that one day she would be raped and killed right at the workplace, and that the employer would not be worried.

We request the justice department and the investigators to follow the case up again, as it is reported this criminal was not alone. The employer must also account for what happened and help the police to find out who else was there on that day and involved in the killing of the poor woman.

During the unprotected strike, we lost many women and children who were victims of rape and killed, and now we call the justice department and SAPS to bring the perpetrators to book. They must protect our democracy.

We want to congratulate the investigator who did this good job and brought the criminal in front of the judge, who has been trained how deal with criminals like the one who must go down today, 28th November 2014.

We call on the media to expose such criminals. This man is currently on a life sentence for raping a five-year baby girl and he must now get two more life sentences so that he will know that a human being is a human being, not an animal like him.
