COSATU calls on Cape Town to make space for poor people who were denied tickets to go to stadium

10 December 2013

The City of Cape Town concedes that the poor must go view the Cape Town Memorial for Madiba on TV at the Grand Parade whilst wealthier who got coupons get into stadium. This is the Mayor`s stance even though she has been advised that poor communities could not get tickets as easily as those from wealthier areas.

Even though there are thousands of seats in the stadium that can be made available, the City still refuses to create space for poorer communities who were constrained by the City`s system of getting tickets.

This is the gravest injustice on the Madiba celebrations.

COSATU calls on the City to make space for the poor who were denied tickets to go to Cape Town Stadium.

With questions, please call COSATU W Cape Provincial Secretary, Tony Ehrenreich, on 082 7733194
