Grade 12 Limpopo learners to benefit from SADTU’s Career Expo

27 February 2013

More than 2000 Grade 12 learners from the Aganang municipality and the surrounding areas in Limpopo will be provided with a rare opportunity of learning about post matric career options during a two-day Career Counseling expo organized by the South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (SADTU).

The expo is part of fulfilling SADTU’s 2030 Vision of creating a learning nation. It is also part of the Union’s commitment to the Education Accord and Quality of Learning and Teaching Campaign.

SADTU General Secretary Mugwena Maluleke said he realized the need for such an expo when he visited schools in Limpopo as part the Union’s Adopt-A-School campaign.

“Many children do well under trying circumstances in this area but end up not pursuing their studies further because of lack of exposure to career options and the province also has fewer tertiary institutions in the province. Teachers were complaining that the children were not getting the exposure because there are fewer tertiary institutions in the province. We then decided to bring the information to them,” Maluleke said.

Students from Wits University and the University of Johannesburg will give first hand information on what learners need to do to apply at these institutions. They will also share testimonies about university life.

The Limpopo Education MEC Dickson Masemola as well as the leadership of SADTU will also address the expo.

Representatives of the South African Students Congress (SASCO), ANC Youth League and Young Communist League will be in attendance.

WHERE: Aganang Hall
WHEN: Thursday, 28 February – 1 March 2013.
TIME: 11am

The media are invited.
