COSATU Limpopo supports the demands for better living and working conditions of farm workers
16 January 2013
COSATU Limpopo Province fully supports the demands for better living and working conditions of farm workers as presented by workers in the Western Cape, we therefore call upon the employers to accede to these demands and also call on government to ensure that the consensus approach in the Mining Sector for research commissions into their living and working conditions be extended to the agricultural sector but not limited to it, as we advance the COSATU living wage campaign.
Secondly, COSATU Limpopo province is humbled by the resignation of Mr. Ntau Letebele, the former Department of Roads and Transport`s delayed resignation as we had demanded as early as August 2011 through our marches and memorandums. We however call on the Premier to ensure, as head of the provincial government, that criminal charges are brought against Mr. Letebele and his Executive Management, and that the former MEC Pinky Kekana be sacked immediately and criminal investigations be instituted against her.
If the Premier Mr. Cassel Mathale fails to take decisive action on this matter, we will have no option but to continue calling for his Executive Council to be sacked or forced to resign, since his administration has run the provincial government and the entire provincial economy into a recession of a special type.
We call on the Premier not to risk awarding Mr. Letebele with the CEO Post at Great North Transport, as rumored, else we will mobilize our militant and radical union SATAWU and communities into a mother of all actions.
We fully support the demand by our revolutionary affiliate SAMWU, for forensic audits to be instituted in identified municipalities and urge law enforcement agencies to speed up criminal investigations.
