SADTU condemns teacher conduct

24 August 2012

SADTU in Mpumalanga is shocked and dismayed by the assault of a female learner by a teacher in eMalahleni as seen on national television news.

We call on the Department of Education in Mpumalanga to urgently investigate the incident and take the necessary action against the teacher.

We further call on the department to facilitate counseling for the learner and her classmates who witnessed the incident.

We urge the learner and her family to lay charges of assault with the police. SADTU calls on all teachers to exercise restraint when dealing with issues of discipline in schools.
We believe that there are other available avenues of dealing with disciple. No amount of anger warrants the kind of assault meted out to this learner.
