SADTU in Mpumalanga congratulates COSATU in the province for a successful congress

24 July 2012

SADTU in Mpumalanga wishes to congratulate the newly elected leadership of COSATU in Mpumalanga. We further wish to congratulate the leadership of all affiliates of COSATU in Mpumalanga for the success of the Congress held on the 21-22 July 2012 in Witbank.

The success of the Congress owes to the efforts of the leadership and delegates of all affiliates who persevered until 21h00 on a Sunday to ensure the Congress was a success.

SADTU in Mpumalanga will in due course seek clarity from the CEC of COSATU on fundamental constitutional questions faced by the Congress and which in our view were complicated by the General Secretary of COSATU.
It is our view that National Office Bearers of the Federation cannot arrogate to themselves the power to overrule the Constitutions of affiliates and impose their own interpretation on Congress.

The General Secretary should be mortified by the treatment meted out to the former Treasurer of COSATU Comrade Lindi Tloubatla and the manner he handled the question of her eligibility.

Whenever National Office Bearers conduct themselves contrary to the norm, it raises serious questions of motive and intent.

We would have thought that the General Secretary will work even harder to make COSATU even stronger as we are faced by the triple challenges of poverty, inequality and unemployment.

That the Congress finished at 21h00 on its last day, owes to the matters raised above.

We are however pleased that Congress ran to its logical conclusion and we hope that the newly elected office bearers will work hard to unite COSATU in the province
