First Deputy-President: Tyotyo James

He joined the National Union of Mineworkers at President Steyn mine in 1984.He was elected as a Shaft Steward in 1989 .In 1991 he was elected to a position of deputy branch secretary until his election as branch chairperson in 1994 at the same mine. The SACP then elected him as a district chairperson of Gold Fields in 1995.He was elected as a deputy regional chairperson of the Free State region of the National Union of Mineworkers in 1996.

He then became a member of Cosatu Free State/Northern Cape PEC. Deployed as an ANC councillor in Lejweleputswa District in 2000, subsequently appointed as a chief whip in the council until 2005.In 2003 he was appointed as a labour representative in the Immigration Advisory Board which advises the Minister of Home Affairs on policy issues relating to immigration and formulation of immigration regulations. In 2000 when the ANC disbanded the Free State PEC, he was appointed by the Interim Leadership Core to chair the Regional Task Team charged with the responsibility to set up ANC structures in Lejweleputswa Region.

In 2007 he was appointed as an acting Regional Chairperson of the Free State and then became a member of the NEC of the union. As a member of the NEC the union assigned him to the task of advancing the internal solidarity work in African continent. In 2008 he participated in a workshop in Brussels organized by the European Union under the theme "Policy Coherence for Development and Migration". In the 2008 he was elected as Free State Regional chairperson, the position he is holding currently. He was also appointed as member of the COSATU Free State`s political commission to advance the ideological work of the federation.
