POPCRU to host a Gender Roundtable Discussion

The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) will be hosting a Gender Roundtable Discussion under the theme "Deepening class consciousness to enhance gender equality."

This Gender roundtable discussion is aimed at sharing good practices in taking forth the struggle of gender equality, identifying the relevance and the importance of women's role in the current political discourse, highlighting and sharing ideas on overcoming challenges experienced by women in the workplace and in society.

Over 80 delegates from local and international trade unions, departments within the criminal justice cluster, NGOs, and political parties will be forming part of this roundtable discussion, and among others, will be deliberating on the following topics;

  • The impact of globalisation on working women in developing countries
  • HIV and AIDS in the workplace: Care and support for employees infected with and affected by HIV and AIDS
  • Rights of persons with disabilities in the workplace
  • Roles and responsibilities of the Commission of Gender Equality (CGE)
  • Unlocking diversity in homosexuality
  • Human rights for sex workers in South Africa

The POPCRU Roundtable Discussion will take place as follows;
