LIMUSA support the POPCRU national march

12 July 2018

The Liberated Metalworkers Union of South Africa (LIMUSA) fully supports the national march of our sister union, the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU). The national march will be staged tomorrow, Friday 13 July 2018, in the City of Tshwane (Pretoria), where POPCRU will be marching to all the departments in the criminal justice sector.

We have noted that the decision taken by POPCRU was not taken lightly. This decision came after the demands and grievances of workers were ignored by government. It actually concerns us that the criminal justice sector has been arrogant in listening to the grievances and demands of workers which are at the forefront of giving excellent service in protecting the country. This hostile attitude by government is an insult to our democracy which was hard fought by the working class. We fully understand and support the grievances of the police, correctional and traffic officers, who are members of our sister union, POPCRU.

POPCRU will be marching for, among others, the full implementation of all signed agreements and resolutions, the restructuring of the South African Police Service, nationalisation of traffic, proper tools of trade, an end to police killings, the finalisation of grading of PSA Appointees levels, the finalisation of shift patterns, payments of outstanding Occupation Specific Dispensation (OSD) in Correctional services and promotion policy.

LIMUSA will join the POPCRU national march in solidarity with the police, correctional and traffic workers. We urge all our members and members of the public to join the march in the quest for justice for workers in the criminal justice sector.

Issued by LIMUSA.
