COSATU fully behind the workers march at Sibanye Gold Stillwater

6 November 2017

The Congress of South African Trade Unions fully supports the planned NUM led workers march to Sibanye Gold Stillwater in Westonaria today. We are calling on the management of Sibanye Gold to rescind their decision to forcefully retrench thousands of workers. An average worker in South Africa supports up to ten family members , and these retrenchments will devastate many families.

COSATU also continues to demand that the Department of Labour should amend the law in order to ensure that all retrenchments should be referred to CCMA for approval than merely notification and consultation.

We are calling on more workers and unions to support the mineworkers at Sibanye Gold Stillwater because if we do not support each other on the picket line , we will meet each other on the unemployment line.
The details of the march are as follows:

Date : 06 November 2017
Venue : Lebanon Red Club in Westonaria
Time : 12h00
