COSATU hails SUDF for its efforts towards a people's government

The Congress of South African Trade Unions is pleased to have received an invite to join, in support and solidarity ,the big march for democracy coordinated by the SUDF (The Swaziland United Democratic Front) marking the global week of action in Swaziland (3-9 September 2017).

The march will proceed after the summit scheduled to take place under the theme "A Call for a People's Government" in Mbabane on 8th September 2017 at 10am. We have watched with great admiration the events of the past 4 days where students have taken the baton to move forward with the demands for a multiparty democracy in their struggle for accessible and affordable education system. We congratulate SUDF for a successful mobilisation of Workers, Students and community towards the same goal of a people's government.

We applaud the defiance of the mass democratic movement as a whole and call on the masses to support and participate in the night vigil at the Ministry of Education scheduled to take place tonight, 7th September 2017, the summit and march scheduled for tomorrow 8th September 2017.

We note with concern the events unfolding at the Luyego Campus where police and the students have a standoff. We call on the police to cease their provocation tactics and allow the students their peaceful demonstration.

COSATU has a renewed and keen interest in its support and solidarity work towards a truly democratic Swaziland as pronounced by the 25th - 27th September 2017 Central Executive Committee Meeting where a call to intensify the support for the Swazi struggle was made and resolved on.

The recent events of the coordinated efforts by the SUDF are encouraging and welcomed by friends of the people of Swaziland all over the world. These efforts are proof that the Swazi struggle is led from inside Swaziland and by the Swazi People themselves.

We reaffirm our renewed solidarity campaign on Swaziland and commit to continue giving our practical and unconditional support to our comrades. We salute our comrades and wish them a peaceful and successful march tomorrow.

Viva to the Peoples Government Viva!!!

Solidarity Forever!!!

Aluta Continua!!!
