Briefing on the meeting of principals between SAPS, POPCRU and SAPU

As per the Settlement Agreement signed by all parties to the Safety and Security Sectoral Bargaining Council (SSSBC) on 29 July 2017 under the auspices of the CCMA [Case No. CCMA HO 2893-17], a meeting of principals was convened on Friday, 11 August 2017 to take the process forward.

It should be noted that all parties were invites, however, SAPU did not attend the meeting.

Beyond that, the meeting resolved to proceed and agreed on the following;

1. The Settlement agreement is valid, legal and shall be honoured to the fullest by all parties.
2. The SAPS shall circulate a draft proposal relating to all outstanding categories of the public service upgrades including the one at hand (10111 Call Centre operators) to participate through the SSSBC on 17 August 2017 for consideration by parties.
3. Special SSSBC meeting shall be convened for the period 25-31 August 2017 putting all efforts to conclude a collective agreement.
4. Should parties not be in a position to resolve within the stated time frame, negotiations shall be concluded within the period of 04-08 September 2017

As POPCRU, we have always held the view that going out to the streets was the last option, and through our experience within the cluster, took a decision which we are confident with yield in prioritising members' interests.

Issued by POPCRU on 14/08/2017
