COSATU mourns the passing away of CDE Kaone Govan Lobelo

Cosatu has received with shock the news about the passing of Comrade Kaone Lobelo best known as Oom Gov on a car accident this past Saturday.Comrade Kaone Lobelo skipped the country to join MK during the 1976 youth uprising, which shook the apartheid regime. At that time,he was a student at Barolong High school. Comrade Lobelo rose through the ranks of MK and was a Commissar. After the unbanning he came back home and worked tirelessly to establish structures of both the ANC and SACP particularly in his hometown of Taung, as well as across the then Bophirima region.

Serving as a Provincial Deputy Secretary then, he conducted political classes for COSATU Affilliates as part of Umrhabulo. His passion was with local government hence he served as a Mayor for DR RSM for two terms and later Greater Taung Municipality.

He was a disciplined cadre who despised ill discipline, factionalism, playing to the gallery and opportunism. A soldier who took ANC instruction and believed in a united strong Alliance.

Cosatu and its entire membership in the Province convey its heartfelt condolences to the Family and comrades of Oom Gov.

MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE!
