Press Conference Announcing Launch of Western Cape Civil Society Task Team on Xenophobia and Violence


The Western Cape Civil Society Task Team on Xenophobia and Violence will be having a press conference on:

Friday 21 May 2008
Time: 10h00
Venue: 122 Longmarket Str, Westminster House, 4th Floor (ALP offices).

The press conference will have speakers from all sectors of Civil Society including faith and community-based organisations, legal and academic institutions, humanitarian relief agencies, trade unions and organisations dealing specifically with the rights of refugees and migrants.

The purpose of the press conference is to introduce the task team and the plans it has put in place to prevent harm and protect vulnerable communties, to provide updates of reports from refugee and migrant communities in the Western Cape and to publicly condemn xenophobic violence. It will also announce the details of a public solidarity meeting of ordinary and eminent South Africans to be held early next week in Cape Town CBD and Khayelitsha.
