COSATU LIMPOPO PRESS RELEASE - REFUSAL OF PERMISSION TO MARCH BY MOOKGOPONG MUNICIPALITY

The Congress of South African Trade Unions in Limpopo condemns in the strongest possible terms the failure by Mookgopong Municipality to grant DENOSA, our affiliated union permission to protest against attacks on nurses.

The actions by the Municipality must be viewed in the context of heightened political tension in the area ahead of the ANC Provincial Conference.

COSATU views this action as part of the plot to undermine the Federation in the Province and render it ineffective.

COSATU will never accept its democratic rights and that of its affiliates to be undermined by individuals who think that they own the Municipality.

Plans are now underway to prepare for the March which will take place with or without the permission of the Municipality. The date of the march will be announced in due course.
