RE: ZCTU publication Editor detained

The Editor of The Worker Newspaper, Ben Madzimure was arrested by police in Central Harare today 31 July 2008.

Although the reasons for the arrests are not yet clear, Madzimure was involved in a small skirmish with the group of male police officers who were forcibly searching a female foreign currency dealer. Madzimure queried why they were indecently searching her. The police are believed to have said he was obstructing the course of justice. He was immediately arrested are taken to Harare Central Police Station where police are now accusing him for writing falsehoods.
