Strike at Telkom

Communication Workers Union (CWU) and South African Communications Union (SACU) will be embarking on a strike as a result of Telkom's refusal to accept demands as presented by the two unions on several occasions including on 28 July 2008 at a meeting held between the parties. The demands relate to the re-opening of the long-term substantive agreement.

The demands are as follows:

· Salary Increase

· An 8,7% increase from 1 January 2008 to 31 March 2008 as well as an increase of 12,5% effective from 1 April 2008 to 31 March 2009.

· Gainsharing

· An increase of 12,5% on gainsharing.

· Medical Aid

· An increase of 12,5% on the employer contribution on medical aid.

· Standby Allowance

· An increase of 12,5% on standby allowance.

Members of CWU and SACU will withdraw their labour totally as from 07h30 1st August 2008 up to and including 5th August 2008 06h00.
