SAMWU PROTECTED STRIKE AT GOVAN MBEKI LOCAL MUNICIPALITY
A memorandum of demands submitted to the Council on 30 June 2008 has been ignored, and has prompted 1500 SAMWU members to resolve to embark on a protected strike starting 28 July 2008.
SAMWU demands include the following:
q That the council must stop the so-called head hunting in the recruitment process which results in nepotism, corruption, mismanagement of funds etc;
q Training must be provided as outlined in the agreed Workplace Skills plan and there must be accountability on grants claimed;
q That the council must immediately stop abusing tax payers money by using lawyers to handle labour matters while the council has a legal unit to deal specifically with labour issues;
q A moratorium on privatization pending the conclusion of the Restructuring of Municipal Services Agreement;
q That the council must stop the process of transferring the Primary Health Care services to the Province;
q SAMWU says no to the REDS;
q An immediate end to political interference in the administration;
q Implementation of the agreed Employment Equity plan.
SAMWU requests all progressive organization within the Govan Mbeki area to support the strike. The strike will continue until our demands are met.
