COSATU W CAPE PRESS STATEMENT
9TH JULY 2008
Cosatu calls the stay-away and protest a huge success with 9000 people braving the rain and cold to tell Government, Eskom and Business in no uncertain terms that the rising prices was a national crisis that affected the poor more severely, with poverty and starvation being a feature of many peoples lives.
Many more thousands left there workplaces and supported the strike to force more urgency to the interventions required to bring an end to high prices and other cost.
The sacrifices made by the marchers to raise the concerns of the effect of government policy and business practices is appreciated, with a days wages sacrificed to raise the problems of the whole society.
