The Congress of South African Trade Unions is devastated by the tragic news of the sudden death of Don Pasquallie, Deputy General Secretary of the teachers’ union, SADTU, in a road accident today, 27 January 2008. We send our deepest condolences to his family, friends and union comrades.

Since joining SADTU in 1991, Don Pasquallie has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of his members and all workers in the public service. He played a leading role in the national collective bargaining team and became an eloquent and forceful public representative of the striking workers during the historic public sector dispute last year.

Don, aged 41, is survived by his wife, Gerna, and three daughters: Garcia, Bianca and Carla. Hamba Kahle Comrade Don.
