COSATU condemns opposition tactics
The Congress of South Africa Trade Unions condemns the opposition parties for deliberately trying to drive a wedge within the ANC, by desperately trying to promote the idea that there is a huge gulf between, on the one hand, the 'mad' ANC leaders at Luthuli House, with dangerous, far-left policies from the Polokwane Conference, and, on the other, the 'responsible' ANC leaders of the government, with sober, realistic policies.
They have come together in a concerted campaign to try to set imaginary groups against one other, and create the idea in the minds of voters that the new ANC leadership is no longer speaking for the electorate who voted them into power in 2004. But it is a ploy that will fail miserably.
We urge ministers and MPs to scorn this unwanted advice from our political foes, who are opportunistically trying to foist their own discredited right-wing policies on to the government and inciting them to defy the democratic will of the people.
There is only one ANC, and wherever its members are deployed, to Parliament and the Government or to the streets, workplaces and communities, they are all mandated by the policies agreed upon by over 3000 delegates elected to the ANC Conference, representing millions of South Africans who are hungry for change and rightly expect their leaders in government to heed their call.
