Release election results now

07-04-08

The Congress of South African Trade Unions demands that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission immediately release the results of the country's Presidential elections held on 29 March 2008.

The failure to announce the results more than a week after the voting is stoking fears that the government is trying to cling to power in defiance of the verdict of the people and impose its will through violence. COSATU urges the South African government to support this call.

COSATU also demands that the Zimbabwe armed forces and police accept the verdict of the electorate when it is announced, respect the rule of law and loyally serve the government elected by the people.
