Workers must be given their holiday 29-04-08 |
MEDIA ALERT
On the eve of May Day 2008 the Congress of South African Trade Unions demands that this and other public holidays be non-trading days, so that no workers are obliged to work, apart from those providing essential services. Far too many employers, in the farming, retail and other sectors, continue to treat public holidays as normal working days, and see them as an opportunity to make bigger profits. We demand that all employers release their workers so that they can be free to attend the rallies which are to be held all over South Africa (see list attached).
COSATU will issue its May Day statement shortly.
