National Strategic Plan on HIV, Aids

13-03-07

The media are invited to the National Consultative Conference on the draft National Strategic Plan on HIV, AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases, 2007- 2011.

It is to be held on 14-15 March, from 09h00 at the Birchwood Hotel, 120 North Rand Road, Boksburg.

The opening address will be delivered at 10h00 on Wednesday 14 March by the Acting Minister of Health, Jeff Radebe, followed by the keynote address by Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, at 10h30.

The National Consultative Conference demonstrates collective effort and united action in the management of HIV and AIDS. It is a critical step towards finalising the National Strategic Plan on HIV, AIDS and STIs 2007 - 2011.

The process aims to achieve a high level of agreement on key priorities over the next five years including efforts to intensify existing programmes and develop new strategies which could further accelerate progress.

The National Strategic Plan includes ambitious targets to reverse the course of the epidemic over the next five years. These targets establish clear indications of the resources required to implement strategies to meet them.

Reaching these targets will require intense collective effort by every one. It will equally require individual behavioural change and responsibility from all of us.

There is no known cure for AIDS: Together we can overcome! Let us join hands in a partnership of hope!
