SADNU statement on the intentions of SANC to change Nurses 27-06-07 |
STATEMENT ON THE INTENTION OF SANC TO CHARGE NURSES WHO WERE ON STRIKE
It has come to our attention that the South African Nursing Council (SANC) Executive Committee is meeting today and tomorrow (26&27 June 2007).
Among issues on the agenda, is the intention to pass a resolution to charge the nurses that were on strike.
Our view given the tradition of SANC is that this resolution will be passed. We are outraged at these developments. We have secured the jobs of the nursed through PSCBC Resolution 1 of 2007 (Addendum Return to Work). We are outraged that nurses should suffer double jeopardy.
Having secured the jobs of nurses, it is unfair of SANC to institute further punitive measures on nurses. We call on SANC to reconsider their position and their role in general.
We demand the return of nurses to work with no conditions and that any intended charges be withdrawn.
We are further concern with the delays on the part of SANC to process applications for Partial Registration for as early as April 2006, this despite its decision in April 2007 to process all applications.
We demand that these applications for Partial Registration must be processed with immediate effect.
These are the two most urgent grievances around SANC. We have many more grievances that can and should be handled through consultation, e.g.
1. Nurse-Patient Ratio
2. Delayed Registrations
3. Unsafe Working Environment
4. Decentralisation of SANC
5. Dismissal of racist personnel
