Visit to family boy killed by lion 25-06-07 |
COSATU North West Press Statement on their visit to the family of Tshepo Gaorupi who was killed by a lion at Morokweng (Vryburg)
The Congress of South African Trade Unions, with the Group of Churches (RUSGOC), SANCO, SACP and Civil Society in the province, will be visiting the family of a 10-year old boy (Tshepo Gaorupi) who was killed by a lion. The visit will take place on 27 June 2007, from 12h00 - 16h00.
The purpose of the visit is to continue to give a moral support to the poor family and secondly to work jointly with the family to fight the killing of farm workers and their families and to make sure that justice is done in the case.
It is our view and assessment that the poor farm workers and their children, including poor communities in the farming and rural areas, are being killed by animals such as dogs and lions, and yet the police close the cases without prosecuting or arresting any of the perpetrators.
COSATU is busy developing a Programme of Action, which will include the Human Rights Commission, Civil Society, Churches, SANCO and the SACP, going to the Department of Safety and Security and demanding justice and the arrest all of those who are implicated in the matter.
Media is invited to the visit on 27 June 2007 from 12H00 to 16H00.
