ZCTU stands in Solidarity 22-06-07 |
Solidarity Message
The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) express its solidarity and support to the Nigeria Labour Congress as Nigerian workers and citizens strike over the hike in fuel prices.
The ZCTU firmly supports the strike action as it is for a genuine cause. An increase in fuel prices has ripple effects meaning that it would worsen the living standard of Nigerians as the prices of most goods are also set to rise sharply. The Nigerian government should, as a matter of urgency, address the concerns of Nigerian workers and civil society groups.
We stand in support to the NLC and we urge the Nigerians to stand firm in voicing their concern over such a move as the hike would only further worsen the difficult socio-economic conditions the Nigerian population is subjected to.
A delay by the Nigerian government in dealing and resolving this matter will be insensitive and hideous as the strikers' demands are just.
