NO AMOUNT OF POLITICAL BLACKMAIL WILL STOP WORKERS' STRUGGLE
COSATU in the KZN is province will intensify the Public Sector Strike tomorrow. This exercise is part of COSATU'S national plan to deepen workers' struggle in the public sector. The Central Executive Committee (CEC) identified tomorrow as a day for a complete shutdown of all economic activities across the sectoral spectrum. We are quite impressed and encouraged by the commitment and dedication that is being demonstrated by our members to the noble cause of salary increment.
We have planned marches across the province in the following area:
1. Durban:
2. P.M. Burg:
3. Newcastle
4. Portshepstone
5. Isithebe
6. Richardsbay
7. Dundee
8. Ladysmith
9. Ulundi
10. Vryheid
11. Manguzi
12. Stanger
We also appreciate the support we have received from the public and their contribution in ensuring that the strike does not loose its momentum. The taxi industry has given us assurance about its full participation in tomorrow's action. The government is responsible for the inconvenience experienced by users of public services. As COSATU, we remain committed to the finding of an amicable solution to the salary dispute. We are concerned about the government's dismissal of workers in the middle of strike action. We are still committed to address same with the health MEC as well as the possibility of ensuring that a minimum service is provided in hospitals.
No amount of bullying tactics will undermine the strike action. Government must exercise national responsibility and provide leadership on the current impasse. The solution is possible.
