COSATU NORTH WEST PRESS STATEMENT TOWARDS THE PUBLIC SECTOR UNIONS
The Congress of South African Trade Unions in the North West will be marching to the legislature on the 13th June 2007 to intensify support for the Public Sector Strike. The march will start from Mafikeng Rugby Stadium from 9H00 to 15H00.
COSATU has mobilised all its members including the NGOs, SACP, SANCO and churches in the Province to support the march on the 13th June 2007.
We call upon our members not to be intimidated, victimised or threatened by statements made by those were elected to represent the views of the working class in parliament at the national election, who, having been elected on a mandate from the poor and working class, have decided on their own to represent the views of the capitalists who believe in production, unilateralism, power mongering and dictatorship to exploit and oppress the working class.
We call upon government to respect the law and withdraw their dictatorial dismissal of our members. We also call upon the department of health to instruct their counterparts to release the Provincial Secretary of NEHAWU in the North-West and arrested shop stewards to be released with immediate effect.
Our strike is protected and we call on all COSATU members in the province to report and submit their dismissal letters to their individual union for a proper response.
COSATU North-West condemns the attitude of government, in particular the department of health, and confirm that COSATU will be there in full force to make sure that their members are not dismissed on the basis of a nation matter.
PROVINCIAL COUNCIL ON AIDS (PCA)
The Congress of South African Trade Union has been questioning the administration, financial status and the failure of the Provincial Council on Aids to implement its mandate to the poor people of the North-West.
It was further confirmed by the memorandum presented to the Premier on the 1st December 2006 by COSATU demanding an investigation on the finance of the PCA. It is clear today that the PCA is unable to account for over R14 million given to them by the North West government to provide ARVs to the poor working class and communities.
The PCA annual financial report is in public for anybody who has been accusing COSATU demanding an investigation on the matter. It is now evident that what the working class has been demanding for the past two to three years was not an insinuation but rather facts which needed response from North-West government.
We call upon the premier and the MEC of Health to act with immediate effect so that our poor people can receive service and call upon all those who accuse COSATU during our march on the 1st December 2006 to publicly apologise to the working class.
