POPCRU welcomes release of crime statistics

For immediate release Wednesday,04 July 2007

POPCRU welcomes the release of crime statistics by the Minister of Safety and Security, Charles Nqakula and would like to mention the following:

a.. That it is regrettable that the crime levels have soared in the past twelve months .We are also concerned that the social contact related and property related crimes have increased.
b.. It is therefore critical that our collaborative efforts as law abiding citizens should be intensified .We know that our law enforcement agencies are working around the clock to ensure that crime is dealt with as urgently and effectively as possible.
c.. Our men and women in uniform are working tirelessly with the view of nipping crime in the bud and their efforts should be supplemented by community based crime prevention strategies.
d.. We believe that our collective efforts as proud citizens of this country should work closely with law enforcement agencies to instil confidence in our people so that we can defeat this monster
e.. In dealing with this problem we should not be haphazard and unnecessarily alarmist for crime is not unique to South Africa but it is a world wide phenomena which should be actively tackled head on .We are positive that South Africa can win this war
f.. The fact that police continue to be killed in the line of duty remains to be a serious concern and deserves urgent intervention.
