Browse mole report

The Congress of South African Trade Unions notes the government's announcement of the outcome of its probe into the origin of the 'Special Browse' email and its finding that it was produced and distributed by former apartheid security service and retired intelligence officials.

COSATU notes the comment of the director-general in the office of the presidency, Reverend Frank Chikane, that "the objective of the drafters of the report was to weaken and paralyse government by waging a smear campaign against targeted senior government officials". It was also designed to destabilise and foment divisions within the ANC, its allies and South African society in general.

We demand that those responsible be identified and will be very interested to see whether any of them are arrested and convicted.
