Press alert
The Chemical Energy Paper Printing Wood and Allied Workers Union, (Ceppwawu) today entered into an agreement with the following Employers Associations:
- Sawmilling Employers Association for an Increase of 8.5% and a 20% increase on the minimum wage. It must be noted that workers in the Sawmilling Industry earn a minimum wage as low as R800 per month.
- Fibre and Particle Board Employers Association for an increase of 8%
- Fast Moving Consumer Goods Employers Association for an increase of 8.5%
- Industrial Chemicals Employers Association for an increase of 8.5%
These settlements brought an end to the strike action that was embarked upon by members on the 30th July 2007. The Tissue and Allied Products Sector is the only sector where Ceppwawu members are still on strike following the deadlock that was reached at the Chemical and Wood and Paper Bargaining Councils. The Employers in this Sector still offers a 6.5% increase and the Union is demanding a 9.8% increase.
Ceppwawu applaud its members for the discipline they’ve maintained throughout the strike action.
