COSATU congratulates Thulas Nxesi

The Congress of South African trade Unions congratulates Thulas Nxesi, General Secretary of SA Democratic Teachers Union, on his re-election for a three-year term as President of Education International (EI) at its 5th World Congress in Berlin last week.

We are proud that a South African union leader, who served with such distinction in the recent public service workers strike, should have been given this vote of confidence by teachers' unions from around the world. We are certain that he will continue with his sterling work at both national and international level.

COSATU continues to play an outstanding role in international trade union confederations. In addition to Thulas Nxesi at EI, Randall Howard, General Secretary of SATAWU, is President of the International Transport Federation (ITF) and Senzeni Zokwana, President of the National Union of Mineworkers, is the President of the International Federation of Chemical, Energy, and General Workers' Unions (ICEM).

All of them prove that COSATU leaders are held in the highest esteem by the workers of the world and are a great advertisement for our federation. We send them all our best wishes for many more years at the helm of these important workers' organisations.
