ZCTU & ILO Staff Detained

The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions HIV and AIDS Coordinator, Mildred Giyava and an ILO Specialist on HIV and AIDS Ms. Hungwe have been taken in for questioning by Kadoma Police. They were facilitating an HIV and AIDS workshop for one of the ZCTU affiliates, Pulp and Paper Workers' Union in Kadoma. The workshop is being held by the ZCTU in conjunction with the International Labour Organization (ILO).

Police claim the ZCTU should have sought clearance first before conducting the workshop. They are currently being interrogated by the Police. We have provided the police with the 2002 High Court judgment barring the police from interefering with ZCTU activities but despite this they continue to disrupt activities.
