Jacob Zuma to visit North West

18-07-07

Cosatu North West press statement on the visit of Deputy President, Comrade Pastor Jacob Zuma, to the province at Letlhabile township, Madibeng, formerly known as Brits, on 21st July 2007.

The Congress of the South African Trade Unions, jointly with South African Communist Party, the Congress of South African Churches, the Friends of Jacob Zuma and other civil society will be hosting the visit of the ANC Deputy President Jacob Zuma, who will be addressing workers, churches and the rest of the community, including masses of the people in Letlhabile township on 21st July 2007 from 10H00 to 15H00.

The purpose of the visit is a continuation of COSATU's programme in relation to mobilising all churches, civil society, SACP, political parties and the rest of the communities that support the fight against unemployment and poverty, racism, and victimisation, in particular for the poor working class, including farm workers who are facing a challenge of being killed by dogs and wild animals, e.g. the case of the a young boy who was mauled by ten-lions in Morokweng recently in June 2007.

It is our view as the federation that the North West province needs a joint prayer service with a joint a programme with all stakeholders against the killing of farm workers including the rest of their families.

The communities and farm workers in Madibeng are faced with challenges of privatising water, electricity and the land, such as the privatising of the Land Oberon and Kommandonek, so that the rich can get richer and the poor become poorer and continue to stay in shacks or tin houses.

All the people of the North West, all COSATU workers and the media are invited to the activity on 21st July 2007 from 10H00 to 15H00 at Letlhabile township, Madibeng, formerly known as Brits.
