Denosa condemns the ill-service rendered to nurses by SANC.
It has astonishingly come to our attention that the South African
Nursing Council, the nursing regulatory body is taking too long
to register nurses even after the completion of their training.
A number of nurses across all Provinces continue to suffer due
to this irresponsibility.
One of our members from Musina in the Limpopo Province finished
her training in July 2006, however she was still not registered
and recognized as a professional nurse until Tuesday the 21st
August 2007. The nurse has made several efforts to notify the
nursing council about the matter but they have dismally failed
to help her, making excuses of missing files and furthermore
promising to come back to her. Denosa finds this ludicrous and
totally unacceptable. As a result of this, the nurse has suffered
even in terms of remuneration due to the fact that she was not
registered by the council. We highly condemn this terrible service
by the council. In this regard, the council is failing to execute
their obligatory duties of registering qualified nurses. Moreover
the law of this country requires every nurse to be registered.
We furthermore call its management to address this crisis as
a matter of urgency.
We have also noted that, this is not a crisis only to the member
from Limpopo but it's prevalent through our members. The resistance
by the council to register nurses on completion of their training
also contributes negatively to the attempt of solving the serious
crisis of gross staff shortages confronted by the health sector
in South Africa.
We demand the Registration Department of the South African Nursing
Council to co-operate with nurses and find a solution to this
matter.
