COSATU backs SATAWU's call on Unitrans to refrain from exposing drivers to danger during CEPPAWU strike

The Congress of South African Trade Unions is disturbed by the report from the SA Transport and Allied Workers Union that its members employed by Unitrans are being forced to collect petrol at the refinery where CEPPWAWU members are on strike. This has led to its members being exposed to intimidation and being viewed as scab labour by CEPPEWAWU members. We share SATAWU's concern at the life threatening situation in which our members find themselves currently.

COSATU therefore supports SATAWU's call for an urgent meeting with the Executive Management of Unitrans with a view to seek an agreement on the following:

* To stop exposing the drivers to life threatening situations
* Management to desist in taking disciplinary actions against drivers that refuse to be exposed to such dangers
* Risks involving property to be damaged
* Look at ways in which Unitrans can put pressure on the Petroleum bosses to resolve the strike on an urgent and amicable basis.
