The funeral of the late Thoko Mabena will take place on Saturday 5 May at the Hoerskool, Nelspruit, from 08h00-12h00. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday 3 May at 14h00 at the Nelspruit Civic Centre.

The Congress of South African Trade Unions learned with great sorrow the passing of Comrade Thoko Mabena in Australia. Thoko was with an Mpumalanga delegation on government duty in Canberra, Australia when she suddenly fell ill and passed away. We send our condolences to her husband, Jacob (JJ) Mabena, the rest of her family and comrades.

Thoko Mabena served the movement as a trade union activist, seasoned in the art of mobilising workers, particularly on gender issues. She was the administrator of the Chemical Workers Industrial Union (CWIU) for many years, before being elected as a member of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature. She was also a member of the NEC of the ANC Women's League.
