LOC solidarity with hotel workers

The Congress of South African Trade Unions thanks the FIFA 2010 World Cup Local Organising Committee for its decision to change the venue of its meeting today from the Sun International Hotel, Sun City, following an appeal from COSATU General Secretary, and LOC member, Zwelinzima Vavi.

This was an act of solidarity with Sun International workers belonging to the SA Commercial, Catering and Allied Workers Union (SACCAWU) who are currently on strike in support of a wage claim. COSATU is fully in support of their struggle.

COSATU calls on all organisations and individuals to follow the splendid example set by the LOC and boycott all Sun International hotels until the strike is over. We hope that all those involved in the World Cup will show similar solidarity with workers in dispute and take a stand against the exploitation and abuse of workers, before, during and after 2010.
