COSATU congratulates government
The Congress of South African Trade Unions congratulates the government on South Africa’s election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the next two years.
This is a well-deserved tribute to a country that has triumphed over racism and dictatorship, adopted a constitution that entrenches human rights and democracy and has played a leading role in resolving conflicts throughout Africa.
We call upon the government to use their two years’ membership of the Security Council to strengthen the movement of progressive countries who are fighting to end war, stop the abuse of human rights and a fair world trade regime. Our goal must be to rid the world of the poverty, underdevelopment and disease which still afflicts millions of the people.
COSATU pledges its full support to the government for any steps it takes to advance the cause of world peace and prosperity for all.
