COSATU North West statement and message of condolence to the Tautona mine workers

Five mine workers from the NUM died at the Tautona Mine during the COSATU Health and Safety month after being trapped underground for more that five days after a big challenge to the Rescue Safety Team to try to save their lives.

COSATU NW calls upon all COSATU unions to embark on a very serious aggressive programme of action to deal with issues of Health and Safety issues at the workplace as outlined in the 2015 programne and COSATU policy documents on Health and Safety.

COSATU again calls a quick investigation for the cause of the accident and demand that anybody in negligence should be dealt with immediately to save the lives of our members.

It is therefore requested that all COSATU members attend the funeral services at their respective places of the mine workers who will be buried over the weekend as follows:

Our deepest condolences go to their families, relatives, friends and the rest Tautona Mine workers

May their souls rest in peace
