COSATU condemns leaking of reports

The Congress of South African Trade Union condemns the leaking to The Star of internal COSATU reports. One was the report of a Commission of union presidents which was set up to investigate problems within the COSATU leadership in the period leading up to the federation's 9th National Congress and the other a response by the COSATU National Office Bearers to the Commission's report.

This week's meeting of the Central Executive Committee resolved that these reports would be taken to the membership and not made public. This decision was reported to a media conference on Thursday 23 November.

The leaking of the document was therefore a blatant violation of that decision, the work of an agent provocateur who is hell-bent on damaging the federation, inflaming controversies and encouraging COSATU's enemies.

Leaking and lying to the media was identified by the CEC as a central problem we face. It is the worst type of ill discipline that the CEC expressed its determination to stamp out.

COSATU members will not be discouraged by this latest act of sabotage, but will be more determined than ever to unite and implement the resolutions passed by our members at the national congress and fight to transform the lives of our class and communities.
