Security guards strike
The Congress of South African Trade Unions reaffirms its total support for the struggle of the striking security workers and their justified demands for a living wage and an end to exploitation. We congratulate our affiliate SATAWU on their skilful handling of what has been a very difficult and passionate dispute.
Like SATAWU we condemn any criminal acts which may have been committed by any of those involved in the strike and call for the immediate end to such acts, but we also maintain that the main responsibility for any violence must lie with the intransigent employers' associations who have not been seriously trying to resolve the dispute.
COSATU therefore calls once again on the CCMA to bring both sides together immediately to negotiate a satisfactory settlement, and we hope that the Minister of Labour and all other stakeholders will play their part in calling for an urgent resolution of the dispute.
