COSATU mourns the untimely death of its Mpumalanga Regional Secretary Khotso Tsotetsi.

Comrade Khotso died in a a car accident on 6 March 1997 while travelling on official duties between Middelburg and Bethal. He was returning from a meeting of the Regional Secretaries of all COSATU Affiliates which had taken place in Middelburg.

Comrade Khotso had been a member of COSATU for many years. He was first employed as an administrator in the COSATU Eastern Transvaal Region, now known as Mpumalanga Province. He then moved to the Food and Allied Workers Union (FAWU) as an organiser. In 1994, after the COSATU National Congress, he was elected as the COSATU Regional Secretary in Mpumalanga. He held this position until his death.

Comrade Khotso leaves a wife and two children, a daughter (9) and son (8). His death is a great loss to COSATU members and to workers in general. It is also a loss to the transformation process of our country especially in his province.

COSATU conveys its deepest condolences to the family, friends and comrades of Comrade Khotso. His untimely passing is not just a loss to his family, but a loss to millions of workers who today more than ever need leaders of such calibre to lead them through the transition to democracy.

Hamba Kahle Comrade Khotso!

TRIBUTE TO KHOTSO TSOTETSI

Khotso
Oh Captain
My Captain
Our fearful trip is done
the ship is weathered, every track.

The price we sought is won
the port is near
where is the price won.
I'm privileged beyond belief
for having shaken your hand
during the Swaziland / Cosatu campaign
when you were just about
to disappear from the earth surface.

Oh captain
my captain
the port is near
where is the price won
Tribute by Paul Sehlabelo
