Links to Labour, Internet Resources throughout
the World
This page aims
to provide a labour links resource, primarily for South African
trade unionists and labour activists. Its focus is thus on African
links, mainly those in South Africa. The page contains information
about and links to a variety of web sites and pages, as well
as to struggles with which COSATU expresses its solidarity. There
is also a facility to request a new link or to point out an error.
Many of the web sites
listed here are described in their own words. The inclusion of
a link does not necessarily imply that COSATU endorses the organisation
or site.

ANC:
African National Congress - The ANC is the majority party in
South Africa's Government of National Unity. The ANC, together with
COSATU and the SACP, constitutes the Tripartite Alliance, united
in its commitment to building a non-racial, democratic South Africa
and to implementing the Reconstruction and Development Programme.

Basic Conditions of Employment Act web site - a comprehensive
overview of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act with related
resources and links which aims to encourage ongoing debate

CCMA -
Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration -
an independent statutory organisation, established in terms
of the 1995 Labour Relations Act to resolve labour disputes.

CDC:
Centre for Democratic Communications - founded under the
auspices of the Tripartite Alliance, with the support of the
Italian trade union movement, the CDC aims to be a fully-fledged,
multi-media production house serving the mass democratic movement.

of Labour - government department which aims to play a
central role in reducing unemployment, poverty and inequity
through a set of policies and programmes developed in consultation
with the social partners. (South Africa)
Ditsela:
Development Institute for Training, Support and Education for
Labour - established by the major trade union federations
in South Africa (COSATU and FEDUSA), Ditsela's centrao achieve
this Ditsela has set up programmes in education and training,
support for union education and organisational development.

ILRIG: International
Labour Research and Information Group - a non-profit labour
service organisation, providing research, educationtraining
and publication services to progressive organisations in Southern
Africa with a specialised focus on international issues, and
in particular on international labour and politics. (South

The
Job Creation Trust: an Initiative of COSATU, FEDUSA
and NACTU. At the 1998 Presidential Jobs Summit, organised
labour pledged to contribute one day's wages on 3 March 1999
into a national fund set up in order to fund a range of job
creation projects. March 3: Join us in working to create

NALEDI -
National Labour and Economic Development Institute - formed
in 1993 as an initiative of COSATU, NALEDI carries out labour
and economic research, its main focus being on conducting policy-relevant
research aimed at building the capacity of the labour movement
to engage effectively with the challenges of the new society.

NEDLAC -
National Economic Development and Labour Council - established
in 1995 as a representative and consensus-seeking body, where
the social partners (Government, Business, Labour and Communities)
seek to reach agreement on policies and proposed legislation
in the social and economic spheres. (South Africa)
NIEP: National
Institute for Economic Policy - an independent black-led
economic research institute servicing the mass democratic movement
and government with research, education and training in the
area of economic policy for sustainable development. (South

SACP:
South African Communist Party - founded in 1921, the SACP
has always been in the forefront of the struggle for socialism
and against imperialism and racist domination. The SACP is
a partner in the Tripartite Alliance consisting of the ANC

Shopsteward -
published by COSATU as the journal of organised labour. (South

TURP:
Trade Union Research Project - undertakes research and
education for trade unions and federations, and develops and
publishes specific materials for union needs. TURP is situated
at the Centre for Industrial, Organisational and Labour Studies

Workers' Library - an independent labour service organisation
and labour resource centre based in a restored municipal workers'
compound in Newtown, Johannesburg. It hosts the Workers' Museum,a
large library and resource centre, the Workers' Bookshop, offers
conference centre facilities and organises regular workshops.
