SATAWU this week continues with the intensification of the road fright strike while the employers are still playing delaying tactics and seeking to break the strike through the court processes.
We have adjourned the negotiations meeting late on Sunday evening with the employers with no tangible agreement on the table. While the employers representatives will be meeting their bosses we will also take the reports back to the workers and continue mobilizing for a total shut down of the operations in the sector.
Activities of the provinces are scheduled AS FOLLOWS:
There will be a gathering at the Beyers Naude Square for a full report back today.
SATAWU Gauteng has also organized the mass rolling action in support of road freight sector wage demands on Tuesday the 02 October 2012
The workers will start by gathering at the Beyers Naude square at 10h00, start marching at 11h30 using the President street to Rissik north and join De Korte street in Braamfontein to the bargaining council atnumber 29-31 De Korte street
The purpose of the march is to hand over a memorandum to the employers association who are party to the council
The union expects a massive attendance of at least not less than 15000 members, we have also met with law enforcement agencies yesterday and agreed on the said action and further steps to ensure peace, lawfulness and prevention to violence. The march will be addressed by COSATU, SACP and YCL.
The march will take place on Tuesday 02 October 2012 at Witbank. The workers will march to the provincial offices of the bargaining council to present a memorandum of demands. The assembly point in Witbank is at Broadway open space and the march will be leb by all the provincial office bearers, COSATU and SACP and one SATAWU national office bearer.
There will be a general meeting on Monday (01 October 2012) at Salt River (Community House), the provincial office of COSATU. The purpose of the general meeting is to prepare for a march that would take place later in the week for a presentation of the memorandum to the bargaining council.
The workers will gather at various points in Pietermaritzburg, Durban and Richards Bay to picket while the strike committees will be briefing them about the next march n the CBD.
There is a scheduled march to take place on Wednesday (03 October 2012) in the Polokwane CBD. Today there will be gatherings and pickets taking place at different workplaces and locals.
