Organising Secretary

Based at the COSATU Head Office – No.1 Leyds Street Braamfontein

Responsible for development of Provinces, strengthening of Affiliates and campaign work of the Federation.

Job description

· Device and develop strategies and ensure that COSATU Provinces are strong and vibrant
· Develop a framework outlining specific demands for guidance of living wage campaign on an annual basis
· Supervise and help implement programmes aimed at helping workers on a daily basis on cases around dismissals and general complaints or queries
· Coordinate recruitment and other organizational work of Affiliates

Other responsibilities include:

· Keep dynamic link with ALL Affiliates, National Organisers, Provincial Educators and Secretaries
· Devise and develop strategies in conjunction with the Provincial Secretaries to strengthen COSATU Locals
· Device strategy in consultation with the Secretariat and National Office Bearers on the recruitment of new unions into COSATU
· Monitor the implementation of decisions taken by the Federation through Provinces, locals and Affiliates
· Monitor and account for all activities in the department
· Coordinate training of the Federations leadership in conjunction with education department
· Coordinate National Organisers meetings/workshops

Administrative duties

· Supervise staff in the Organising Department and ensure discipline as per the disciplinary procedure of the Federation
· Ensure that the campaigns coordinator, gender coordinator and or any staff in the Organising Department, draw yearly budgets in time
· Ensure implementation of programmes which are coordinated by individual staff members in the department
· Approve activities undertaken by the department
· Submit periodical reports to the constitutional structures, secretariat and national office bearers
· Attend all national constitutional meetings


Requirements:

· A level 4 NQF qualification with a minimum of 5 years experience in Trade Union work in non governmental organization in an equivalent job
· A valid drivers license
· A good understanding of South African Labour Laws
· Good Administrative and management skills
· Be computer literate
· Numeracy and literacy skills
· Be proficient in English
· Be prepare to work unlimited hours
