Legal Coordinator

Based at the COSATU Parliamentary Office in Cape Town

Responsible for providing dedicated legal capacity to assist in the analysis of draft legislation and legal drafting of proposed legislative amendments.

Job description

· Analyse proposed legislation and provide briefing memoranda on areas of relevance to COSATU
· Monitor the processing of such legislation through the legislative process, identifying and coordinating points of intervention for COSATU at the national and provincial level
· Assist researchers in preparing submissions on relevant legislation and policy issues, with particular emphasis on proposing alternative legislative drafting
· Prepare popular summaries of proposed legislation, outlining its implications for workers and the broader community

Requirements:

· Relevant legal qualifications or equivalent training
· Preferably some experience in analysis and interpretation of legislation
· Ability to write coherently
· Ability to work effectively under pressure
· A commitment to the aims and perspectives of the trade union movement
· Be computer literate
· Be prepare to work unlimited hours
