National Educator position based at the COSATU Head Office – No.1 Leyds Street Braamfontein
Requirements/Skills
- Education skills, including an ability to facilitate in workshops, designing materials and coordination of education and training skills
- Political skills, including a firm knowledge of the trade union movement and the liberation movement.
- Conceptual skills, including the ability to present and write well.
- A level 4 NQF qualification with a minimum of 5 years experience in Trade Union work in non governmental organization in an equivalent job
- A valid drivers license
- Be computer literate
- Numeracy and literacy skills
- Be proficient in English
- Be prepare to work unlimited hours
Responsibilities
· The job description of the national education officer will be to assist the education secretary as related to education and developmental issues for Cosatu and all its structures.
· Will primarily be responsible for developing, updating and compiling existing education materials, address the research needs around curricular, methodology development, and assist with the development of educator capacity, in Cosatu and for union educators.
· Assist with the development of policy on education and training issues with other necessary structures within and outside the federation’s circles as based on the federation’s policies.
· Will co-ordinate with affiliate education departments and link to the secretariat through/with the education secretary as related to needs on education and developmental issues.
· Will see to the provincial/affiliate needs on the development of staff and office bearers as based on the internal programme as will be decided upon by Nedcom and as linked to the constitutional structural overall approach. That the education officer will assist the education secretary on all the other education programs and represent the federation where necessary on policy and organisational matters that deal primarily with the educational matters.
· To co-ordinate and monitor national and provincial education programme and education capacity on all areas relevant to the labour movement and as relevant to policy needs.
· To work closely with affiliate educators and material developers in the development of education curricular.
· To liaise with relevant bodies on the developmental sphere of material on organisational development and capacity building.
· To develop, maintain and monitor support systems for research and other relevant departmental services.
· Conceptualising, planning and implementing the education programme at national and regional level.
· Co-ordination of the various projects within the programme.
· Co-ordinating the curriculum development processes and networking with affiliates and NGOs.
· Playing an active role in building the capacity of our affiliates and provinces and to deliver training programmes.
· Assisting in programmes of other departments within COSATU.
